7. BURNLOUNGE PUTS THE POWER OF DISTRIBUTION IN THE HANDS OF THE ARTISTS AND THEIR FANS by Jackie Goldstein, BowWow Media © 2007 All Rights Reserved. Used By Permission. BurnLounge is a network of over 25,000 independent online music retailers that is changing the music retail business. BurnLounge partners with all major and independent labels and independent artists to provide legally licensed non-exclusive music. For the thousands of independent artists who are not with any label, it puts them on the same playing field as labeled artists when it comes to the sale of their music. At no charge, an artist can submit a licensing request form and send a copy of their CD to BurnLounge. Within a few weeks it will be uploaded to the BurnLounge network of stores for sale. The artist makes .50-.70 per .99 download and $5 - $7 per $9.99 album download. "It's the reincarnation of the corner record store", BurnLounge president/ COO and co-founder, Ryan Dadd says. "This whole concept is about the next generation of retail. It's about marketing to affinity groups, to people with shared interests." "In the music business, we've always known that personal referrals and relationships lead to sales," says Stephen Murray, BurnLounge president of entertainment and co-founder. "The problem is there's been no way to quantifyably track that transaction. But now it is possible with BurnLounge. Artists and fans can set up their own online stores with BurnLounge and allow their fans to open stores and become their online chain of stores. It puts artists in control of growing their distribution channel. The model allows store owners to make money from the sale of any media from their chain of stores as well as from directly building the business and growing their network. "Hardcore music fans, that's our core demographic. They love music so much and the idea of being able to tell their friends about the music they think is good and be able to sell it to them as a side job is really cool to them." says Murray. Currently, independent artists rely on creating traffic to their websites where they provide the ability to order only their CDs. With BurnLounge, an artist can have a link from their site that leads fans to their BurnLounge site which highlights their music on their frontpage, but allows fans to purchase any music from the library during their visit. The artist makes money from the sale of other artist's music as well. Its goals are to have not only the largest catalog of labeled and independent artists, but the largest catalog of underserved, rare, out-of-print and geo-specific music… and to have the largest music distribution channel. Costs of music stores range from $30 where fans are able to sell music and earn points that they can redeem for music, to $430 plus a monthly $15 fee for the more serious "music mogul" who sees the opportunity to build teams and earn cash revenue from viral sales. Check out our BurnLounge site at www.bowwowmedia.com While you're there scroll to the bottom and watch the commercial. If you want more information call 620-294-1200 ext 1 for a voice-on-demand overview.
